ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS REGARDING TO GYPSIES MEETINGS
IN TRANSYLVANIA IN 1919

Petre MATEI

Abstract:
The documents published here refer to the Gypsy meetings organized in 1919 in Transylvania. Such assemblies were among the first forms of modern organizations of the Gypsies in Romania. Most of the documents are original and contain protocols of their meetings. Demonstrating some ethnic consciousness, organizing themselves and expressing their own social and ethnic goals, the Gypsy representatives claimed equal rights and land reform, while showing loyalty to Romania.
